The Sr Manager, Employee Relations (ER) Leader is responsible for building and executing an integrated employee relations strategy that is aligned with the Edwards Lifesciences’ cultural, strategic, current and anticipated business and talent needs. This role is responsible for defining the ER program requirements for the purpose of enhancing the employee experience and maintaining the business competitive advantage through leading practices.  This role will be called upon for its geographic ER expertise and knowledge to serve as a strategic and trusted partner, but investigations will not default to assigned geography to ensure neutrality. Investigations and projects assigned are expected to be global in scope and may cover multiple regions, business units and functions.  This role will be responsible for resolving a range of global employee relations issues including providing advice and guidance on complex matters, conducting impartial investigations, resolving complaints and developing programs that foster positive employee relations.  Initially the position will be assisting in the development of the global philosophy, strategy, design and methodology to establish the Employee Relations Center of Expertise practice in partnership with key stakeholders.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead employee relations programs for the Global Supply Chain organization. Respond to local jurisdiction complaints (i.e. EEO). Execute employee relations programs based on business need, program requirements, and global alignment. Collaborate with legal counsel to ensure that the regional HR Solutions ER group is trained and kept current on local laws/practices to ensure compliance.
  • Lead and conduct internal investigations outside of assigned geography/function on unique, complex and/or senior level employee or management allegations or incidents that could have significant impact to the company.  Provide investigation outcomes and recommendations for corrective action in a timely manner and with appropriate documentation, if applicable, in partnership with ER colleagues with expertise in geography/function, internal/external legal counsel, HR Business Partners and business leaders. Evaluate risk associated with employee relations issues and advise on options.
  • Develop content, analyze data and occasionally present, all interim and ad hoc reporting on investigations, metrics, and analytics.
  • Develop and plan strategic employee relations projects (may include workforce reductions, mergers and acquisitions, etc.) and program activities with accountability for successful completion of all project deliverables including identifying gaps, recommending solutions while providing direction and guidance to project teams.
  • Identify, evaluate, and lead the implementation of employee relations programs and process improvement and/or course correction/course alignment opportunities. Lead in identifying risk, developing mitigation strategies, alternative solutions, resolving issues, etc. in collaboration with cross functional and/or matrix teams.
  • Define, create, and establish seamless stakeholder communications and experiences
  • Interface and network with external experts to understand the market and emerging tools, trends, and opportunities. Anticipate business impact and challenges to changes in employment related laws and practices in assigned geographies and recommends forward-looking process/practice changes. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, Management, Organization Development, or a related field
  • 12+ years of relevant HR experience, including Employee Relations domain experience with demonstrated skills in fact-finding, analysis, problem solving, independent thinking, having courageous conversations, and conflict resolution.
  • Professionally trained and experienced in conducting complex, high risk and sensitive internal employee investigations. 
  • Excellent balance of critical thinking and sound judgement.
  • Good knowledge of current and upcoming trends, thought leadership, and leading practices for GTM&L, with a focus on the Employee Relations area.
  • Flexibility to work outside of standard business hours to accommodate different time zones.
  • Professionally proficient with English communication skills – verbal and written

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent graduate degree (e.g., MS, MBA), a minimum of 10 years of experience (stated above) is required with a graduate degree.
  • AWI-CH certification
  • Experience supporting M&As (Mergers and Acquisitions) from an Employee Relations perspective. 
  • Secondary preferred language proficiency: Spanish, Mandarin, French, German, or Japanese
  • Good interpersonal and consulting skills with the ability to build trusting relationships with, influence, and coach leaders across all levels of the organization.
  • A passion for advocating for others with demonstrated ability to exhibit courage to challenge openly and drive difficult conversations, apply judgement, political sensitivity, confidentiality and act collaboratively and discreetly.
  • Strong planning and project management skills with a successful record of creating, improving and executing scalable programs, ability to drive and measure program effectiveness and high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and comfort with interpreting business and people data to tell a story and translating it into actionable strategy and/or insights.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment with little direction/guidance but also knows when to escalate issues to the Sr Director, Employee Relations.
  • Proficient at functioning effectively within a team environment, present ideas and opinions in a respectful and collegial manner.
